LIVE ART - POSTIVE CAT CALLING
Motivated to bring awareness to cat calling and street harassment, a group project was formed between myself and fellow USW students - Sammie, Lowri, Hannah and Karen.
Using positivity as the main concept of the performance, we stood outside of the USW Treforest library for an hour in protest.
We used a megaphone to shout positive compliments to the public that were not based on physical appearance such as -
"I am so happy you exist"
"You deserve to feel safe and loved"
"I understand that you are not here for my or anybody else's gaze"
A leaflet was created by all members of the group to hand out to the public. It contained information about cat calling, power stances, where to get support and how to respond to someone who has been cat called.
The live performance took place in November 2018.
